Applications of plasma-induced biological effects via reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) make the non-thermal atmospheric-pressure plasma jets an appealing tool in biomedical fields. The presence materials, especially as part electrode circuit, may change properties impact on production RONS at plasma–biomaterial interface. Effects biomaterials hydroxyl radicals (OH) a nanosecond pulsed, jet were investigated using needle-to-plate configuration with water, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), or pigskin covering ground plate. Driven by 200 ns, 7 kV pulses 1 kHz, helium was generated between hollow needle biomaterial. Temporally resolved UV-visible imaging showed that use slowed down streamer head propagation, whereas more pronounced surface ionization wave developed when water used. highest OH(A-X) emission above biomaterial observed PBS-covered plate comparing to pigskin. Spatiotemporally laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) OH produced region near for both PBS, resulted least overall. In addition, measurements H2O2 liquid used determine concentration vicinity agreed well relative OH-LIF obtained gas–liquid interface PBS.
